Odin Sphere – First impressions

I’m not a good summarizer, i can’t summarize for shit. And people say that a pictures worth a thousand words, so go check out the gametrailers first and educate yourself at 12,000 words a second.

Certain game publications have made a little noise about the game Odin Sphere -specifically Play which has a very cool interview with the game’s creator, George Kamitani in their May 07 issue.

There were only three copies of the game when i picked it up, and they hadn’t been unpacked from the storeroom yet. I’ve only played the first level so far, but i can say that all of the things i’ve heard seem to be true.

The game really IS that pretty, the sprites are nice and large to show off their detail, putting more emphasis on the story telling than on the action.

The combat also looks like what i would hope more action RPGs would be. The initial combat is simple but satisfying, and there’s depth to be found in using items and special attacks to handle each stage of enemies.

lastly and most importantly, the game isn’t too easy. On normal difficulty the first level is light enough to get into but still challenging, showing that you need some skills to play (something a lot of action RPGs suffer from, afraid of driving off rpg players)

I can tell already, worth more than the $30 pricetag – j
